West Palm Beach is a beautiful city in Florida. The city is known for its Norton museum, restaurants, cultural attractions, recreations, shops, and of course, beaches! Today, we will interview an interesting personality named Kerri Wright Deitsch who lives and practices law in West Palm Beach as well.
Hello Kerri, tell us a bit about yourself?
Being an attorney in a big city like Palm Beach, I have a very busy job. But despite the work pressure, I continue to enjoy my profession since it gives me a sense of justice and doing something good in the community. The feeling you get from helping other people using the power of law is something that can’t be described in words!
There is a perception that passing the Florida bar exam is hard. If it is correct, then how did you managed to pass it?
In general, it is hard to pass any bar exam in the US states. But when we are talking about the Florida bar exam, it is known to be one of the toughest among the other states! During my time studying law, I had to take the subjects related to wills, torts, evidence, business entities, Florida rules of civil procedure, criminal procedure, and so on.
During this process, I had to pass through a lot of stress and anxiety, but at the end of it all, I finally managed to pass the exam and become a lawyer. The law school in which I studied was Stetson University College of Law. To say that it was a dream come true (becoming a lawyer) would not be wrong at all!
Being a Lawyer is a tough job. What do you do to relieve stress?
I love rollerskating. The moment I put on my roller skates, I start to feel relieved already, and by the time I start to move in these shoes with wheels, it seems that I am leaving behind all of my stress and anxiety as I push forward.
There is a bit of a learning curve to rollerskating, but once you get used to it, it is one of the best hobbies. Besides relieving stress, it is also a great way to have fun & quality time with my kids.
I also have a white Pomeranian dog that is a complete fluff ball and very adorable. Looking at those innocent eyes also brings calm and takes away all the stress!
Rollerskating and being an attorney. Normally, lawyers have a perception of always being serious. What do you think of it?
We are all humans and being a lawyer doesn’t mean that you do not get to have fun. In fact, a profession like this that requires long hours of research and going through legal stuff which can easily drain your energy. Having a hobby like rollerskating can help you calm your nerves and get you ready for the challenges ahead.
What are your practice areas as a lawyer?
At this time I specifically do Juvenile Criminal Defense almost exclusively for the Office of Regional Conflict Counsel. I do still hold an administrative position as a partner in a firm I own with my husband, Deitsch & Deitsch PLLC.
