ALIGARH: Mahesh Sharma, a 21-year-old resident of Barotha village near Aligarh, was abducted for over four months – drugged, brutally assaulted, and forced to drink urine – he has now been put under house arrest after his family wrote to CM Yogi requesting euthanasia, as reported by Neo Politico.
According to Lokmat, Mahesh was abducted on 24th February by members of a prominent local Dalit family. For a week over four months, Mahesh was kept in captivity, drugged, assaulted, and forced to drink urine. On June 30th, Mahesh was found tied up lying on Ramghat Kalyan Marg.
According to Mahesh’s mother, she had reported the matter to the local station and had also met with Aligarh SSP. However, after a mute response from police and concerning authorities, the family had written to CM Yogi requesting euthanasia on 15th August. However, Mahesh has now been put under house arrest as the nation celebrates its 75th independence day.
The matter originated when Rajkumari Sharma, Mahesh’s mother, had expressed concerns regarding the usage of public property for cattle by the neighboring Dalit family. The family holds influence in the area and the Sharmas, including their daughter, were being harassed on a daily basis.
Rajkumari had registered an FIR on April 11th against Omveer, Aman, Sushila, Prem, Puneet, Omvati, Arjun, Suresh, and Bunty; all being members of the same family. In the FIR, she notified that, the Sharmas had objected to the neighboring family for keeping their cattle tied by the road in the locality as this caused trouble to everyone passing by.
The accused then physically assaulted her elder son. Members of the family were then taken to the local police station where the police made a verbal compromise between the two parties. Later on the same day, the accused stormed the complainant’s house along with wooden sticks, rebar, and belts and brutally assaulted members of the Sharma family. She accused the miscreants of molesting her and her daughter.
Rajkumari mentioned that the assaulters left after the screams of the family were heard. But they threatened one of the sons of killing him and he went missing the same day.
After the matter was reported by some media outlets. Aligarh Police reported having made one arrest in the matter. The accused has secured bail from the court as per the latest reports.
