The Outlooker | Indore: Stand-up artist Munawar Faruqui, who made headlines for his controversial remarks on Hindu gods back in April, was handed over to South Tukoganj Police station on Friday, Jan 1.
Faruqui was conducting his show at The Monroe Cafe at 56 Shops, Palasia, where members of the Hindrakshak Society gathered and got into a brawl with the organizers. After the scuffle – that lasted some 10 minutes, Faruqui was taken to South Tukoganj Police Station.
According to the café’s manager, the organizers were not given any permission to host the show ‘Dongri to Nowhere’ considering the pandemic. The show organizers Edwin Anthony and Pratik Vyas had booked the café on the precedence of a family gathering and were not authorized to sell tickets or to host a stand-up show.
Munawar Faruqui made headlines in April for his controversial remarks mocking Hindu deities. Post which, activist Ramesh Solanki filed a complaint with Mumbai Police requesting them to book an FIR against him.
